The twice-postponed barangay elections will finally proceed May 14, with more than 1.17 million candidates vying for positions in around 42,000 barangays.

Originally scheduled on Oct. 31, 2016, the barangay polls were reset to Oct. 23, 2017 then May 14, 2018.

Republic Act Nos. 10923 and 10952 extended the three-year terms of officials elected in 2013.
