The new Barbie movie was banned in Vietnam because of the map that allegedly included China’s illegal nine-dash line claim. But here in the Philippines, the MTRCB said, there is no sufficient basis to ban the film because China’s “nine-dash line” claim is not shown here.
In an interview with Variety, Warner Bros. Film Group explained: “The map in Barbie Land is a child-like crayon drawing… The doodles depict Barbie’s make-believe journey from Barbie Land to the ‘real world.’ It was not intended to make any type of statement.”
What is China’s nine-dash line claim? Why is it important to understand this?
