THE family of the late VERA Files trustee and journalism professor Lourdes “Chit” Estella-Simbulan and VERA Files launched Tuesday the Chit Estella Awards for Journalism. The launching was timed with the commemoration of the 40th day of her death and her interment at the San Agustin Church columbarium.

(UPDATED) The lawyer of the Universal Guiding Star (UGS) Bus Line has identified the bus that first hit the taxi ridden by journalism professor and veteran journalist Lourdes “Chit” Estella-Simbulan.

A DAYafter she was cremated, the ashes of veteran journalist and VERA Files trustee Chit Estella were brought to the College of Mass Communication in UP Diliman, where she served as a full-time professor since 2005.

THE sudden death of Chit Estella on Friday, May 13th, has outraged many given the tragic manner of her passing. But just as her colleagues and friends mourn for the loss, they also remember with fondness the years spent with Estella, described by most as kind, courageous, and principled.

CHIT ESTELLA and I were well on our way to obtaining tenure as professors of journalism at the University of the Philippines in Diliman when classes open this June. We had survived the university's dreaded "up or out" policy after graduating this month with a master's degree in public management from the UP Open University.
