VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Jay Sonza did not say the price of Jasmine rice went down

A report by the month-old website updatedtayo.info that the price of Jasmine rice down had gone, thanks to President Rodrigo Duterte, is misleading.

The story links to an April 6 Facebook post of former UNTV anchor Jay Sonza, which states that the price of well-milled rice went down from P52 to P39. He did not mention Jasmine rice.

In another Facebook post, Sonza links to a post of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pinol, which also did not refer to jasmine rice.

As of April 4, the Department of Agriculture posted prices of well-milled rice at P40 to P44. Regular-milled rice falls in the P35 to P39 price range, while fancy rice in the P51 to P57 price range. The photo that accompanied the story was obviously photoshopped.
