The price cap on rice took effect nationwide on Sept. 5 despite drawing flak from some lawmakers, economists and farmers’ groups.
This contradicts Marcos’ Executive Order (EO) No. 39 which cited a report from the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry that “global events” have also influenced the price surge.

PSA said food inflation has slowed down to 6.7% in June 2023 from 7.5% in the previous month. However, it is still higher than the 6.4% recorded food inflation in June 2022.
