A Facebook user claims there will be no classes on June 16, the start of the new school year, due to the spread of monkeypox (Mpox). This is fake.

Uploaded on June 1, the reel featured an infographic with the logo of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and Bagong Pilipinas with text that reads:

WALANG PASOK June 16 2025 class suspended due to mpox virus.

(NO CLASSES June 16 2025 class suspended due to mpox virus.)

On the same day, another user posted a similar graphic carrying the logo of the Department of Education with a caption stating:

“ANNOUNCEMENT!! PLEASE SHARE!! CLass suspended on June 16, 2025 due to MPOX, dahilan nito ay upang See more…”

Classes on June 16, 2025, are not suspended due to the spread of Mpox, contrary to claims circulating online.

There are no official announcements from any government agency on this. Neither the PCO nor the DepEd has issued such an advisory.

The fake post also includes a link that redirects users to a product page on a shopping platform.

The erroneous graphic surfaced following the recent confirmation of Mpox cases in different regions across the country. On May 24, the Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Health Office reported the first Mpox case in the province. Four days later, local health officials confirmed one Mpox case each in Iloilo City and Iloilo province.

As of the end of May 2025, a total of 911 Mpox cases were recorded in the country since 2024, according to Department of Health Spokesperson Albert Domingo.

The Facebook reel garnered two million views, 23,000 reactions, and 20,000 shares. A similar clickbait image, meanwhile, earned 766 shares, 30 reactions, and 26 comments as of writing.
