A video of Fr. Jerry Orbos supposedly promoting a product that claims to improve eyesight is circulating on Facebook. This is fake and manipulated through artificial intelligence.
On Aug. 20, an FB page carrying the name of the popular Catholic priest uploaded a two-minute and 17-second video of Orbos supposedly narrating how the product Nature’s Key Lutein Gummies improved his eyesight.
At the 00:29-second mark, Orbos can be heard saying:
“Sinubukan ko na ang mga eyedrops, nagsuot ng salamin, at kahit sumailalim sa operasyon sa mata pero walang gumana. Hanggang sa muli kong makita ang isang matagal ng kaibigan. Isa na ngayong ophthalmologist sa Philippine General Hospital. Tumingin siya sa akin at sinabi, baka ito na ang ipinadala ng Diyos para sayo. Subukan mo. Baka bumalik pa ang linaw ng paningin mo. At tunay ngang may himalang nangyari. Pagkalipas lang ng lima hanggang pitong araw na pag inom ng Lutein Gummies, hindi na ako nagluha. Nawala ang pananakit at pagkapagod ng mga mata. At ang pinakakamangha-mangha, muli kong nabasa ang bibliya kahit wala ng salamin
(I tried eyedrops, glasses, and even underwent eye surgery but nothing worked. Until I saw a long-time friend again. He is now an ophthalmologist at the Philippine General Hospital. He looked at me and said, maybe this is what God sent to you. Try it. Maybe your vision will clear up. And true enough, a miracle did happen. After just five to seven days of taking Lutein Gummies, my watery eyes stopped watering. The pain and fatigue in my eyes were gone. And the most amazing thing was, I was able to read the Bible again without glasses).”
The person in the video went on to encourage netizens to visit the attached link and avail themselves of the discounted product.
The advertisement is fake and Orbos never endorsed such a product.
Edited video promoting unregistered supplement
The product, Nature’s Key Lutein Gummies, is not on the list of registered food and drug products of the Food and Drug Administration.
Orbos’ official YouTube channel uploaded the original video on Dec. 31, 2024. It was a New Year’s Day message and made no mention of the product.
The Catholic clergy had earlier disowned the products falsely attributed to Orbos.
The post further led netizens to the site healthnews24h.website where netizens can buy Nature’s Key Lutein Gummies at a discount.
Tell-tale signs of AI-manipulation
Tell-tale signs of AI-use are present in the video, such as manipulations of the mouth movements and voice cloning.
VERA Files reached out to the Deepfakes Analysis Unit of the India-based Misinformation Combat Alliance to check the video’s authenticity.
Results from DAU’s audio analyses using Hiya Audio Intelligence revealed that the voice seems generated or modified using AI, with “only 1% match with live human markers.”
Hive audio classifier also showed that “save for 20 seconds, the rest of the audio track was found to be AI-generated by the tool.”
Results from ElevenLabs speech classifier, however, showed uncertain results.
DAU also ran the video through Hive AI Deepfake Detector, but only a segment was flagged as containing deepfake content.
VERA Files has debunked other fake ads that featured the church leader.
The video uploaded by the impostor page Fr Jerry Orbos – Lutein Gummies Pilipinas (created on May 22, 2025 as Repair SCAR CREAM) garnered 5,000 reactions, 643 comments, 118 shares and 85,000 views.
