A viral graphic card allegedly from the Department of Energy claims that an “energy lockdown” will be implemented starting April 20. This is fake.

VERA Files found at least 10 copies of the photo published by mostly personal accounts on Facebook from April 2 to 4. The card carried the logo of DOE on the upper part and contained the following text:

“ANNOUNCEMENT ENERGY LOCKDOWN Starting April 20, 2026

Please prepare your

  • Power Bank, Solar Equipments
  • Rechargeable Fan, flashlight
  • Candle,lamps, etc.
  • Foods,Medicines,Water

INFORM YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS BY SHARING THIS POST”

In an April 6 FB advisory, the energy department said the circulating claim is “fake news” and clarified that it has not announced a lockdown.

The DOE reminded the public to verify information they receive before sharing it and to visit its official channels for credible updates.

No “energy lockdown” will be implemented starting April 20. Both the Department of Energy and Malacañang said the circulating claims are fake.

As early as April 3, Malacañang Palace already dismissed claims of an “energy lockdown.”

Fake news ito (That is fake news),” Palace Press Officer Atty. Claire Castro said in a message to the media.

Castro had also said in a press briefing earlier that a lockdown is not being considered at this point in the ongoing energy crisis.

A similar fake claim about a lockdown due to a shortage of energy supply was debunked by VERA Files.

The bogus posts surfaced after President Ferdinand Marcos on March 30 ordered all government agencies to reduce electricity and fuel consumption in response to soaring oil prices.

As of writing, the 10 posts published by FB users have collectively amassed 1,620 reactions; 612 comments; and 10,272 shares.
