A graphic claiming that the Commission on Elections has started charging P3,000 for voter registration is circulating online. This is fake and came from an impostor page.

On Aug. 12, an FB page posted a social media card with the Comelec’s logo and text that read:

“Announcement. Maniningil na ang Comelec ng 3,000 Pesos sa lahat ng mag papa rehistro. Walk in simula August 15, 2025. MAY BAYAD NA ANG MAG PA REHISTRO (Comelec will now charge 3,000 Pesos register. Walk in starting August 15, 2025. REGISTRATION NOW HAS A FEE).”

This is not true. The Comelec did not release such a graphic and voter registration remains free of charge.

The Commission on Elections has disowned the circulating graphic claiming that voter registration now costs P3,000. Registration for new users remains free of charge. The fake graphic came from a Facebook page pretending to be the Comelec.

In an Aug. 15 Viber message to VERA Files, Comelec Spokesperson Atty. John Rex Laudiangco confirmed the graphic is fake and from an impostor page.

The Comelec’s official FB page has since posted an advisory debunking the fake announcement and clarifying that voter registration is a constitutional right for qualified Filipinos and there is no payment for it.

The Commission also warned netizens of the impostor page Comelec Ph. It advised netizens to get official updates only from Comelec’s official website, comelec.gov.ph, and social media pages.

Voter registration requirements and procedures are also listed on Comelec’s website.

The link attached to the fake post leads to an e-commerce site. This is a form of affiliate marketing that uses disinformation to drive users to a product site.

The graphic circulated a day after the Comelec announced that it had processed almost 2.8 million applicants during the voter registration period for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on Aug. 1 to 10.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has since postponed the BSKE from December 2025 to November 2026.

VERA Files has debunked other fabricated announcements attributed to Comelec.

The post by the impostor FB page Comelec Ph, which was created only on Aug. 11, garnered 165 interactions. The graphic has been shared on other FB groups, gaining additional traction.
