Several Facebook pages are spreading a graphic card claiming a big-time rollback in oil prices will take effect this week in “selected areas.” This is not true.
The graphic, first published on April 29 by a page posing as a media outlet, listed the prices of oil products as follows:
“OIL PRICE UPDATE. EFFECTIVE ON MAY 5, 2026
Gasoline ↓ ₱35.00/L
Diesel ↓ ₱45.50/L
Kerosene ↓ ₱25.80/L
SELECTED AREAS ONLY”
In the caption, however, the page qualified that the price cut is “possible,” stating:
“BIGTIME OIL PRICE ROLLBACK SA MAY 5!
Asahan ang posibleng bawas-presyo sa gasolina at diesel sa ilang lugar sa bansa ngayong May 5, 2026. Magandang balita ito para sa mga motorista at commuters
(BIGTIME OIL PRICE ROLLBACK ON MAY 5!
Expect a possible price reduction in gasoline and diesel in some areas of the country this May 5, 2026. This is good news to motorists and commuters).”
Two other blogger accounts reposted the graphic and copy-pasted the same caption.
The Department of Energy has not announced any oil price rollback effective May 5 in any area in the country. In contrast, the agency announced that oil prices will increase from May 5 to 11 following a series of price cuts in the past three weeks.

In a press briefing on May 4, the energy department said prices of gasoline and diesel will increase by P2.21 and P2.66 per liter, respectively. This will bring up pump prices to around P73 to P107 per liter in Metro Manila and other highly urbanized areas.
Meanwhile, the cost of kerosene will decrease by P3.53 per liter. But the price will still range from P124 to P146 per liter, contrary to the claim in the post.
The incorrect graphic card surfaced amid the oil crisis due to the ongoing tension in the Middle East, affecting the global oil supply chain.
