A Facebook video circulating online claims the Department of Social Welfare and Development is giving out free rice to all Filipino families beginning Oct. 6. This is fake.

The 15-second video carried a caption that read:

“LIBRENG BIGAS PARA SA MGA PAMILYA – OCTOBER 6, 2025 (MONDAY)”

The video, published on Oct. 5, said “under the DSWD program, all qualified beneficiaries will receive rice subsidy as part of the help for Filipinos.” It required registration on provided links that led users to online shops.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development is not giving out free rice to all Filipino families. The video was generated using artificial intelligence. Neither the DSWD nor any legitimate news organization released such a report.

This is fabricated. The post was generated using artificial intelligence and neither DSWD nor any news organization has released any report about this claim.

Based on observation, the supposed anchor’s facial features are close to having perfect symmetry, a characteristic that signals AI influence, aside from a slight difference in the side of the eyebrows near the nose. The little amount of shadow, especially on the anchor, also indicates that the video is potentially AI-generated.

After running the video through the AI detection tool Hive Moderation, the results show a 74.8% aggregate score, signifying that the post “likely” contains AI-generated or deepfake content.

While the DSWD does not give out free rice, its Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program provides cash grants to beneficiaries in the form of a health grant of P750 or P600 rice subsidy per month.

The DSWD and the Department of Agriculture have also partnered for the Walang Gutom Program, which allows enrolled beneficiaries, including solo parents, senior citizens and persons with disabilities, to buy rice for P20 from Kadiwa outlets or DA-accredited retailers.

The post, published by News Alert Pilipinas (created on Oct. 12, 2022) has garnered more than 1.9 million views, 40,000 likes, 6,400 comments and 15,000 shares, as of writing.
