Some netizens are resurfacing an old news report from a media outlet claiming that the House of Representatives has impeached Vice President Sara Duterte. This needs context.

The impeachment case referred to in this February 2025 news report was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court last year and affirmed this Jan. 29. Two new complaints were filed against the vice president this year in the lower chamber and these were declared sufficient in substance by the Committee on Justice on March 4.

First posted on March 1 by a Facebook user, the one-minute and 29-second reel features a news report about the House impeaching the vice president. A photo of her appears at the bottom of the video, which carries the following overlaid text:

“VP SARA DUTERTE IMPEACH NA (VP SARA ALREADY IMPEACHED).”

The caption of the post further states:

“IMPEACH NA! Sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon Isang Bise Presidente ng Pilipinas ang na impeach. GMA7

(IMPEACHMED! For the very first time, a vice president of the Philippines has been impeached. GMA7).”

A video of the House of Representatives impeaching VP Sara Duterte is an old report published in 2025. Proceedings on two new impeachment complaints filed this year are still ongoing.

The original video was published on Feb. 5, 2025 by GMA Integrated News when 215 congressmen voted to impeach Duterte. The case was sent to the Senate for trial, but the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional in July that year for violating the one-year ban on filing multiple impeachment complaints.

The false post circulated as Duterte faces the new impeachment raps over the alleged misuse of confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, an alleged assassination plot, and other claims of constitutional violations and betrayal of public trust.

Under the House Rules of Procedure, the vice president has 10 days to respond to the complaints. The parties may then exchange replies and submit affidavits and counter-affidavits.

The Committee on Justice will then conduct hearings on the complaints before submitting a report to the plenary for voting of all members of the House to either approve the Articles of Impeachment or dismiss the complaints.

The reel, published by at least three FB users, has so far received 121,076 views; 2,134 reactions; 217 comments; and 289 shares.
