A post circulating in various social media platforms is claiming that Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo is urging Vice President Sara Duterte to “resign out of shame and not wait for the impeachment trial.” This is fake.

The quote card, first published on Feb. 20, is being attributed to the acting chairperson of the House Committee on Appropriations, and includes her image with this text:

“I suggest, VP Sara just resign out of shame and not wait for the impeachment trial. She is clearly out of her mind. And we don’t need a Vice President like that. If she has the intentions to run for President in 2028, gawin niya na ngayon. Gusto ko siyang tumakbo para mas mapahiya siyang lalo (do it now. I want her to run so she can be more humiliated).”

Marikina Rep. Stella Quimbo did not urge Vice President Sara Duterte to save face by resigning now and not wait for the impeachment trial. The fake quote card used Quimbo’s photo from a newspaper article on the national budget law.

Based on a reverse image search, Quimbo’s photo used in the quote card is from a Manila Times Jan. 28 article about the third-term congresswoman defending the 2025 national budget law. There was no mention of Duterte’s impeachment in the article, as cited in the text in the fake quote card.

Quimbo also did not make such a statement on her official Facebook page.

The bogus quote also bears similarities to a statement made by Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Secretary Larry Gadon on Feb. 17, where he urged Duterte to resign. Gadon said:

“I suggest that VP Sara Duterte should resign and not wait for the impeachment trial to proceed…Gustong-gusto ko siyang tumakbo kasi gusto ko silang mapahiya…(I really want her to run because I want them to be humiliated…)”

Quimbo previously dismissed several quote cards and other graphics related to Duterte’s impeachment attributed to her, saying they were “fake news.”

The earliest copy of the fabricated statement emerged a day after Duterte allies filed a motion on Feb. 19, urging the Office of the Ombudsman to place four House leaders, including Quimbo, under preventive suspension over alleged irregularities in the 2025 budget.

Published by Facebook (FB) page Chikahan with Aling Marites (created May 15, 2018), the fake quote card garnered over 1,400 reactions, 790 comments, and 499 shares.

It had already been circulated by other users and pages on FB, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and TikTok. More recently, the FB page DDS Legacy 2016 (created on May 22, 2024) shared a copy of the bogus quote card, which received over 4,300 reactions, 2,900 comments, and 242 shares.
