A clickbait Youtube video shared by several users on Facebook claims that Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has resigned from his post. This is false.
On June 7, a YouTube channel uploaded a video with a headline that read:
“BIGLAAN ITO! DILG SECRETARY J0NVIC (sic) REMULLA NAG RES1GN (sic) NA! CONFIRMED NAG BITIW NA! INSTANT RES1GNED (sic)
(This is sudden! DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla has resigned! It’s confirmed he has stepped down! Instant resigned)!?”
The clip’s thumbnail containing a similar claim was reposted by at least four other netizens on FB. One post shared in a pro-Duterte FB group carried the following caption:
“Yown, iwan niyo na ang Marcos admin kung sa tingin niyo may natitira pa kayong hiya sa pagmumukha niyo sa mga Pilipino
(There you go, just abandon the Marcos administration if you still think you have any sense of shame left to show Filipinos).”
There is no announcement or any credible report that Remulla has stepped down. The official website of DILG still identifies him as the secretary.
Remulla’s recent public appearances also indicate that he remains active in his role as DILG secretary. On June 9, two days after the erroneous claim was made, he held a press briefing on the arrest of dismissed police officer Rafael Dumlao. He likewise appeared in an interview on June 15 regarding the investigation into the death of two Ateneo student-athletes.

The clickbait video did not show any evidence to support its claim. Instead, the man in the video was only reacting to footage of Remulla’s press conference about the impending arrest of Sen. Bato dela Rosa and to clips related to the impeachment case of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The false video surfaced amid rumors that President Ferdinand Marcos plans to remove Remulla from his Cabinet. Marcos denied the reports and said he had no plans to replace him, adding that he remains satisfied with his performance.
Published by YouTube channel OFFICIAL NEWS FILES (created Apr. 28, 2024), the video has so far garnered 27,753 views, 1,800 likes, and 221 comments. Copies reposted on FB received 768 reactions; 649 comments; and 115 shares in total.
