A YouTube video is claiming the Supreme Court (SC) has kicked out House of Representatives Speaker Martin Romualdez, with SAGIP party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta possibly replacing him. This is false. There is no leadership change in Congress.
Uploaded on March 2, the video bore the headline:
“Korte Suprema sinibak na si Romualdez!! Marcoleta bagong House Speaker ng Kamara?!!
(Supreme Court removes Romualdez!! Marcoleta the new House Speaker?!!)”

Romualdez remains the House Speaker of the 19th Congress. He closed the session when it adjourned on Feb. 5 ahead of the May 12, 2025 midterm elections. The House will reopen for its final session on June 2-13.
The 26-minute erroneous video features only political commentaries and there was no mention of a decision by the SC.
Under the principle of separation of powers, the Supreme Court has no authority to suspend or remove a member of the legislative branch of government.
Moreover, Section 13 of the House Rules states that the Speaker’s position can be declared vacant through nominal voting by a majority of all the House members.
There are no resolutions initiated or pending in Congress seeking the removal of Romualdez from the House speakership.
The inaccurate video emerged more than a week after Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez and other complainants sought the preventive suspension of Romualdez and three other House leaders before the Office of Ombudsman on Feb. 19 over alleged irregularities in the 2025 national budget.
Published by YouTube channel BOSES NG MASA (created on May 23, 2022), the spurious video garnered 40,605 views, 2,100 reactions and 395 comments. Two Facebook users have also posted the link to the false video on the platform.
