Several posts on Facebook are once again claiming that Grades 11 and 12 (senior high school) under the K-12 program will be abolished, this time supposedly starting next school year 2026-2027. This is fake.
A new law is necessary to repeal Republic Act No. 10533, which was enacted in 2013, establishing the K-12 system that includes two years of senior high school after four years of junior high school. The Department of Education has repeatedly said the claims about the removal of senior high school from the basic education program are not true, tagging the circulating posts as misinformation.
On Nov. 10, a Facebook page shared a graphic card announcing that Grades 11 and 12 will be officially scrapped. The image bore the logo of DepEd to make it appear legitimate. It further claimed that some schools had already abolished the K-12 program. The text in the photo stated:
“ANNOUNCEMENT NO GRADE 11 & 12 SCHOOL YEAR 2026-2027.
STARTING JUNE 2026. SEVERAL SCHOOLS ALREADY IMPLEMENTED TO ABOLISH K-12 FOR SY:2026-2027”
The fake photo has been shared by multiple pages and in various community Facebook groups.

In a Nov. 11 advisory, the DepEd debunked the circulating image and called it fake.
“Fake news ang kumakalat na post sa social media tungkol sa umano’y pagtanggal ng Grade 11 at 12 para sa SY 2026-2027. Muling pinaaalalahanan ng DepEd ang publiko na mag-ingat at maging mapanuri sa mga impormasyong nababasa online,” the agency said.
The DepEd urged the public to report pages sharing misinformation and to rely only on its official social media accounts for verified announcements.
Most of the posts spreading the fake image included links that supposedly contain a list of schools that have removed senior high school. These are actually promotional links that redirect users to products on online shopping platforms.
On June 5, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada filed a bill seeking the removal of senior high school from the K–12 program, citing that it “still has not fully achieved its goal” of producing skilled and job-ready graduates since its implementation in 2013. However, Congress has not yet acted on the measure.
