A viral reaction video on Facebook claims that a June 8 “minor earthquake” toppled a building housing a fast food outlet and a radio station in Davao. This is inaccurate.

Uploaded on June 9, a netizen — who uses highly offensive and profane language throughout the two-minute and five-second video — is reacting to collapsing establishments. He can be heard partly saying:

Ito ‘yung lindol sa Davao. Buti nakalabas ‘yung mga staff ng Jollibee. Grabe naman oh. Ano ba ‘yang building na ‘yan, gawa sa karton? Sa plywood? Love Radio tsaka Jollibee, nasira.

Sino ba gumawa nito, gingineer? Ano ba kayo d’yan sa Mindanao, mga gingineer? Korapsyon talaga marami sa Mindanao, eh no?

Kita mo ngayong gumuguho na, lahat. Konting lindol, guguho agad.

Pansin ko lang sa Pilipinas kapag lumilindol ng gan’yan, ang daming nawawasak na building, lalong-lalo yung mga parteng Mindanao area. Ang daling gumuho ng maraming building d’yan.

(This is the earthquake in Davao. Good thing the Jollibee staff managed to get out. This is terrible. What kind of building is that? Was it made of cardboard? Or plywood? Love Radio and Jollibee were damaged.

Who built this, some ‘gingineer?’ What kind of people are you there in Mindanao, ‘gingineers?’ There really is a lot of corruption in Mindanao, isn’t there?

Look at everything collapsing now. Even a small earthquake causes buildings to collapse immediately.

I’ve noticed that whenever earthquakes happen in the Philippines, so many buildings are destroyed, especially in parts of Mindanao. Buildings there seem to collapse very easily.)”

The narrator repeatedly described the event as a “minor earthquake” that caused the establishments to crumble immediately. He also constantly linked the impact to the alleged widespread corruption in Mindanao, mentioning infrastructure projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Based on the report of the Philippine Information Agency in Region 12, the toppled building where the fast food chain and radio station were located is in General Santos City, not Davao.

Major, destructive quake

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology classified the earthquake as a “major” event with magnitude 7.8 and an offshore epicenter 32 kilometers west of Maasim, Sarangani that jolted surrounding provinces.

“Using the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale (PEIS), the highest reported intensity is PEIS VII (Destructive), which was felt in General Santos City,” the PHIVOLCS noted.

The destructive effects of this intensity level include “[considerable] damage” on old or poorly-built structures, “[slight damage]” on some well-built buildings, and “some cracks may appear on dikes, fish ponds, road surface, or concrete hollow block walls,” according to the state volcanology agency.

The ragebaiting clip with false claims emerged a day after the powerful earthquake struck parts of Mindanao. The latest situational report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council showed that the reported fatalities rose to 45, with 487 injured and 17 people missing, as of June 9.

Published by FB page The Angry Doc (created on March 28, 2026), the spurious video amassed 7,500 reactions; 10,700 comments — mostly criticisms against the narrator — 1,600 shares and 756,000 views as of writing.
