A clip posted on Facebook claims to show footage of a violent protest that allegedly took place in the Philippines. This is false.
The video was taken in Kathmandu, Nepal during a youth-led demonstration.
Published on Sept. 13, the 18-second video captured from an elevated vantage point shows a fire truck firing a water cannon to disperse protesters. It contained a superimposed text that read:
“oh my goodnesses, ganito kagulo ang rally ng piLipinAs (Oh my goodness. This is how chaotic the rally is in the Philippines)”
The erroneous post also carried a caption that stated:
“ganito ung rally naganap sa pilipinas (This is the rally that happened in the Philippines).”

A reverse image search using keyframes of the FB reel reveals that the clip is from a longer video first posted by a user on TikTok on Sept. 8, 2025. The caption of the original video included the hashtags #GenZ and #Nepal. The misleading clip was taken starting at the 00:14 mark.
Nepal-based digital media outlet Setopati and Indian news outfit NDTV also posted footage of the same protest from a different angle. According to Setopati, tear gas and water cannons were used by authorities after protesters attempted to enter the premises of the Parliamentary House.
On Sept. 8, Nepali protesters, most of them from Generation Z, flooded the streets of Kathmandu to oppose a ban on major social media platforms and to demand action on widespread corruption and poor economic opportunities. The demonstration escalated as protesters set fire to government establishments, including the Parliament building and the Supreme Court.
The incorrect video surfaced after protests also erupted across Metro Manila on Sept. 12 denouncing the anomalies in flood control projects that allegedly involved officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways and certain politicians.
