Double gold medalist Carlos Yulo, bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio  and Aira Villegas led the athletes who brought honor to the country in the recently concluded Paris 2024 Olympics in sharing their joy with the Filipino people and thanking them for their support in a homecoming parade Aug. 14.

People, young and old, including the father of Yulo, lined up the streets, from the Philippine International Convention  Center at the Cultural Center Complex on Roxas Boulevard to Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Vito Cruz to cheer the “heroes.”  The day earlier, Aug. 13, the Olympians met with President Marcos  in Malacañang immediately after their arrival from Paris.

The people’s excitement and happiness etched on their faces are so touching. It is as if they saw in the Olympians their own dreams and they now have more reasons to pursue them.

It was a beautiful public show of affection.
