The “Million People March” social media activists had been cooking up for weeks failed to produce the promised million. But no matter. The message from the almost 100,000 rallyists who descended on Rizal Park on a drizzling Monday morning was crystal clear: Enough of “pork.”

From all indications, the motley throng was unmoved by President Aquino’s pronouncement on Friday that he would abolish the Priority Development Assistance Fund, the most manifest “pork barrel” lawmakers have been helping themselves to all these years.

Instead, they remained steadfast in demanding the dismantling of the pork barrel system and retribution for those engaged in public thievery.

Photojournalist Mario Ignacio IV captured the mood at the historic park in this series of black-and-white photos.
