Relief and rescue in Marikina

SOME 5,000 families or 35,378 individuals have sought shelter in 29 evacuation centers in Marikina, amid the continued swelling of the Marikina River and heavy rains that caused floods in various parts of the city.

Employees and volunteers of the Marikina City government have been working in shifts as part of relief and rescue operations ongoing since Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Marikina Chapter of the Red Cross helped in the operations at the command center for disaster management at the Marikina Sports Park Building.

At 1:30 p.m. Aug. 8, the weather bureau PAGASA posted on its Twitter account that moderate to heavy rains are expected over Metro Manila.
