Clad in black, their masked presence cast an eerie feeling at the Luneta protest rally led by the militant Bagong Alyansang Makabayan.

Emotions were high at the rally but it was the positive kind – an expression of outrage against betrayal of public trust and abuse of authority.

The masked group did not blend with the protesters. They acted as if they were waiting for a signal to move.

It was at Mendiola, a few meters away from Malacañang where the President lives and hold office, that they went on a rampage – throwing rocks, broken bottles, metals, Molotov cocktails at police and attempting to burn the firetruck that was on standby.

It became obvious that they went to the protest rally to create violence. It was planned.

Who were they and who were behind them?

They were thugs, not citizens protesting corruption in the government. They were there to sabotage the call for public accountability of those who have stolen massive public funds.

The Department of Interior and Local Government said they are investigating the incident.
