VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Graphic claiming Marcos supporters rescued a drunk ‘Kakampink’ NOT TRUE

false

A graphic circulating on Facebook (FB) claims that supporters of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos rescued a drunk and unconscious supporter of former vice president Leni Robredo. This is false.

On Oct. 15, a FB page posted a photo of a man being carried by bouncers in a bar and passed it off as an unconscious “kakampink” or Robredo supporter being assisted by four Marcos supporters. The photo was originally uploaded by the intoxicated man himself who said in a post that he would never drink again.

The altered graphic carried this text:

“KAKAMPINK, NAG-LASING NG LIMANG BUWAN DAHIL SA PAGKATALO NI LENI ROBREDO. Iniligtas ng ilang BBM supporters ang isang Kakampink na namataan na walang tigil ang kakainom dahil sa pagkatalo ng kaniyang kandidato. Aniya, ‘Titindig raw siya hanggang sa kamatayan para kay Leni’ tama ang kaniyang pinaglalaban nguni’t sinayang daw ng Pilipinas

(KAKAMPINK, DRANK ALCOHOL FOR FIVE MONTHS BECAUSE OF LENI ROBREDO’S DEFEAT. Some BBM supporters rescued a Kakampink who was seen drinking alcohol non-stop because of his candidate’s defeat. He said, ‘He will stand up for Leni until his death’ what she is fighting for is right but the Philippines wasted it).”

The original photo posted on Kevin Hufana’s FB page carried the caption: “Me: Hindi na ko iinom kasi trip lang yun ng mga immature (I will not drink anymore because that’s only done by immature [people]). Also me:” Hufana, a member of the popular content creator group Team Payaman, did not identify himself as a supporter of Robredo or any politician in his post.

The faces and the “bouncer” labels on the red shirts were blurred to fool netizens.

Several netizens believed the false graphic with some commenting that the supposed “kakampink” is overreacting, crazy and must already move on from the election results.

Hufana’s photo is now viral online with media organization Pilipino Star Ngayon reposting it.

The erroneous graphic posted by the FB page PBBM News garnered 2,700 reactions, 304 comments and 64 shares. It was also reposted and shared by the pages RSB Tv (created on Sept. 22, 2021 as Bong Bong Marcos 2022 movement) and BBM Supporter (created on Nov. 5, 2021 as BBM supporter’s). It was also circulated on social media sites Twitter and TikTok.
