VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Marcos, Quiboloy did NOT shut down UP Diliman

False

Another YouTube video is claiming that the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman has been closed down, this time by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. This is not true.

Posted on Feb. 13, the headline read:

“KAPAPASOK LANG! MATINDI TO! SARAD0 na! PASTOR QUIBULOY SUMAB0G sa GALIT UP DILIMAN GUSTONG IPASA-RA (JUST IN! THIS IS INTENSE! NOW CLOSED! PASTOR QUIBULOY BURST IN ANGER WANTS TO CLOSE UP DILIMAN)!”

Its thumbnail featured, among others, a photo of Marcos edited to look like he was holding a document, images of Quiboloy and UP Diliman, and the text:

“CONFIRM! SARADO NA. ITO ANG MATINDING GANTE NI PBBM AT PASTOR. GOODBYE NA UP DILIMAN (CLOSED. THIS IS THE INTENSE REVENGE OF PBBM AND PASTOR. GOODBYE NOW UP DILIMAN).

This claim is false. There are no reports of Marcos nor Quiboloy shutting down the university.

The video likewise failed to prove its claim. It only flashed a slideshow of photos of UP Diliman’s Quezon Hall, protest rallies, Quiboloy, Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio as a narrator discussed the opinions of the pastor and netizens on the university.

In May 2022, Quiboloy suggested to shut down UP, if not, for the government to cease providing funds to the university following protest actions at the campus after the announcement of the results of the national elections.

The false video was uploaded the same day classes for the second semester of the school year started.

There were other false claims about UP Diliman’s closure spread last year. (Read related story VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Video FALSELY claims Marcos-Duterte took action against UP Diliman for disobeying face-to-face classes order

The video uploaded by the previously fact-checked YouTube channel Showbiz News Update TV (created on March 22, 2022) garnered 17,645 views. Netizens also shared the link on Facebook.
