Guinness World Records belied a claim that declared a caravan of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as the “longest in the world.”
Three Facebook (FB) posts featured photos of Marcos’ Dec. 8 motorcade along Commonwealth Ave. in Quezon City and a March 21 campaign rally in General Trias, Cavite, and falsely captioned them: “GUINNESS WORLD RECORD LONGEST MOTORCADE BBM.”
“This information is incorrect,” Guinness World Records’ official Facebook page replied to the original FB post that was reuploaded by an FB user and by FB pages BBM SARA 2022 (created in November 2021) and Maxbar Info TV (created in June 2021).
According to the Guinness World Records’ official website, to set or break a Guinness world record requires photographic and video evidence, two witness statements, a cover letter, and a witness from the international record-giving body.
A similar claim has been debunked by Tsek.ph partners Fact Check Philippines and MindaNews.
Last November, VERA Files Fact Check debunked a claim that a Marcos caravan in another place was allegedly recognized by the Guinness World Records as the “longest in the Philippines.”
The three incorrect posts posted on March 27, 28, and 31 garnered a total of nearly 2,000 interactions. These appeared after Marcos’ son, Ferdinand Alexander, and Marcos’ nephew, Matthew, held a proclamation rally in Ilocos Norte on March 25.
