The government wants to refute the arguments made by International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan last week in pressing to continue its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity under the Duterte administration’s “war on drugs.” 

International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan has insisted that the “extremely serious” drug-related crimes committed during the Duterte administration were encouraged by the former president himself and other top state officials.

Only the government’s request to suspend the resumption of the drug war probe was junked by the ICC Appeals Chamber on March 27.

The Philippine government has requested the International Criminal Court (ICC) to deny the request by the families of alleged drug war victims to respond to the state’s appeal to stop the court’s investigation into former president Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody campaign.

Some 90 relatives of victims of the war on drugs of the Duterte administration have requested the International Criminal Court (ICC) to allow them to respond to the Philippine government’s appeal to suspend the court’s investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed during the bloody campaign.

Marcos is the latest and the highest public official who put into question ICC’s jurisdiction to investigate the drug-related killings under the Duterte administration.

Although Dela Rosa and former president Rodrigo Duterte were named in the request of former ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda for an investigation into the killings related to the drug war, no suspects have yet been identified in the probe.
