THE proclamation of winning bets in Monday’s barangay polls is almost done, the Commission on Elections said Wednesday.

As of 8 a.m. today, almost 39,500 barangays or 93.8 percent of 42,028 barangays have declared their new set of officials, it said.

Of these, Ilocos Norte (Region I), Central Luzon (III), Calabarzon (IV-A), Mimaropa (IV-B), Bicol (V) and Eastern Visayas (VI) have proclaimed the winners in all barangays.

Central Visayas (VII) has the lowest number of proclamations at 62.7 percent. Comelec said this was chiefly due to the postponement of elections in 1,109 barangays in the earthquake-hit Bohol. Elections in Zamboanga were also postponed because of the standoff.Special polls in the two areas will be held on Nov. 25.

The rest of the regions, including Metro Manila, have nearly completed proclamations, ranging from 94 to 99 percent.

Among the remaining 6.2 percent of villages that still counting and canvassing votes are in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Comelec.

Chairman Sixto Brillantes said the poll body will not yet release updates on ARMM because it is still consolidating reports. Elections in Lanao Del Sur and other areas are ongoing.

Elections Commissioner Al Parreño, assigned to monitor the polls in ARMM, on Tuesday said the barangay elections in ARMM were “peaceful.”
