Last December, the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 11229 or “Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act” were signed and approved. The law will be enforced starting February 2021 but it will but cover only private vehicles.

The Department of Transportation will study whether to require public utility vehicles (PUVs), including ride-hailing services, to install car seats. “Otherwise, other necessary legislative measures for the safe and secure transportation of children in PUVs shall be recommended,” it said.
