A TikTok video claims that Filipino workers in Dubai have launched a People Power movement for the Dutertes. This is false.
Posted on Nov. 24, the video compilation still making rounds online shows clips of aerial shots of people running along the Sheik Zayed Road during the Dubai Run 2024. It also included footage of the same event in 2022 posted by an entertainment page on TikTok.
But the following text was superimposed on the video:
“Umpisahan na namin dito sa Dubai”
“#Duterte2028”
“Ituloy nyo jan sa Pinas ang people power”
(“We will start it here in Dubai. Duterte2028.
Continue the people power in the Philippines”).
An audio of people chanting “Duterte” was likewise overlaid on the video.
The Dubai Fitness Challenge is a health initiative launched in 2017 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. This year’s edition held last Nov. 24 was attended by a record number of 280,000 participants, including OFWs.
Calls for a people power movement for Vice President Sara Duterte circulated online after she was slammed by some groups for her involvement in controversies, including alleged fund misuse, as well as her behavior after the detention of her chief of staff Zuleika Lopez.
