A video supposedly showing a policeman lashing out at crew members of a fast food restaurant is circulating online. The clip is fake and generated using artificial intelligence.

On March 7, a Facebook page uploaded a 26-second clip of a man in police uniform making a scene, shouting in Filipino and slamming food trays as the crew tried to calm him down.

A portion of the post’s caption read:

Sa gitna ng pila sa fast food, uminit ang eksena nang mawalan ng pasensya si Mamang Pulis. Imbes na maghintay tulad ng iba, nauwi sa mainit na sagutan sa counter

(In the middle of a queue at a fast food restaurant, the scene got messy when a policeman lost his patience. Instead of waiting like everyone else, a heated exchange happened at the counter).”

The video also bore the text:

Mahiya Ka Naman Mamang Pulis — Wala Ka Bang Pasensya? (Shame on you, Police Officer — Don’t you have any patience)? OH NOOO….”

This clip is AI-generated and the Philippine National Police has released an advisory warning netizens about the post that puts their ranks and organization in bad light.

The video of a policeman lashing out at fast food crew members was generated using artificial intelligence. On March 17, the PNP released an advisory warning netizens about the fake clip.

On March 17, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group’s official FB page posted a statement debunking the post that they labeled as an AI-generated video that “falsely impersonates police officers to spread misinformation and damage the reputation of the PNP organization.”

On closer inspection, visual clues showed that the clip is AI-generated:

  • People in the background suddenly disappear and the superimposed text tries to hide this flaw.
  • Details in the fake policeman’s uniform do not match those of the authentic PNP general office attire and other authorized uniforms. The design of the shoulder patch on the man’s attire is different from the genuine article.
  • The right hand of the man in the video also slightly changes shape between frames. His hand was also on top of the tray, not holding it, when he slammed it on the table.
  • The text on the menu board is blurred or incomprehensible – an example of hallucinations in AI-generated content.

VERA Files Fact Check reached out to the Deepfakes Analysis Unit of the India-based Trusted Information Alliance to further verify if the video was generated using AI.

DAU ran the video and audio in AI-detection tools and the results were contrasting.

For the video analysis, results from WasitAI, AIorNot and Hive AI image and deepfake classifier showed that the clip is likely created using AI. Sightengine also classified the clip as not made using Google AI.

DAU ran the keyframes through IsitAI which showed contrasting results. The tool found one frame as “likely created using AI” and another one as “likely human.”

Hive AI audio classifier, Hiya, Aurigin AI and ElevenLabs speech classifier ran the audio clip but results indicated that it is not made using AI.

According to DAU, the clip has a lot of visual clutter, noting “the text box covering up almost the entire body of the officer, the man face-palming below and the animated emoji on the top right corner” which could have interfered with the tool results as it analyzed the entire footage.

The DAU further noted that the sipper cup “seems to vanish the moment he lifts the tray and slams it down” and “there is no visual evidence of the drink inside it to have spilled.”

With these observations and results from AI-detection tools, the likelihood of the clip being made using AI is high.

The fake video circulated a day after the PNP launched its coaching and mentoring program in Camp Crame. This is the PNP’s preventive strategy under its internal disciplinary mechanism, which bolsters “professional guidance, ethical leadership, and accountability among personnel.”
