A video on Facebook erroneously claimed that comedian and host Vice Ganda cried after the City Government of Davao allegedly declared her persona non grata following her parody on former president Rodrigo Duterte in a concert. This is not true.
On Aug. 16, a verified FB user published the spurious video with the caption:
“Vice Ganda, emosyonal sa hatol dahil sa pambabastos kay Former President PRRD. Vice Ganda, di na makaka apak sa Davao.
(Vice Ganda is emotional over the verdict she received for disrespecting former President Rodrigo Duterte. Vice Ganda can no longer set foot in Davao).”
With music playing in the background, the 16-second video shows the comedian wiping her tears while being hugged by people. The same false caption was superimposed throughout the video’s run.
A reverse image search revealed that the video of Vice Ganda was unrelated to the false persona non grata claim.

The original video was taken during the red carpet premiere of the film “And the Breadwinner is…” in December last year. Vice Ganda is seen turning emotional after the film she headlined was given a standing ovation.
The City Government of Davao did not even declare the noontime show host persona non grata.
VERA Files Fact Check has already debunked the false claim. While the Davao City Council approved a resolution condemning Vice Ganda’s skit in a recent concert and deemed it “disrespectful” against the former president, it dismissed claims of declaring the comedian persona non grata.
The false claim spread a week after Vice Ganda made a parody of Duterte’s 2016 remark about jet skiing to the West Philippine Sea, adding that the journey includes a “free trip to The Hague” where the former president is currently detained – which earned the ire of Duterte supporters.
The FB user’s video with the wrong context has garnered over 5,600 reactions, 1,100 comments, 190 shares and 567,000 views.
