A supposed video of the arrest of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy is circulating online. Old clips of his co-accused being taken into custody five months ago were used and given the wrong context.

Posted on Facebook (FB) on Sept. 2, the 28-second video ran three clips showing authorities entering the KOJC compound in Davao City and escorting individuals out of a room.

The video bore the text and caption: “Pastor quiboloy nahuli na Ng nbi (Pastor Quiboloy already arrested by the NBI).

These clips were taken out of context. While Quiboloy — accused of human trafficking and sexual abuse — had indeed been caught on Sept. 8, the clips actually show a different event.

The video does not show the arrest of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy. The clips show his co-accused in child sexual abuse and human trafficking cases being taken into custody in April.

The first two clips show agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) entering the KOJC compound on April 3. Rappler’s YouTube channel uploaded a copy of the video credited to Newsline Philippines.

The last clip is a PTV footage that same day showing Quiboloy’s associates, who face sexual and child abuse charges and human trafficking, being escorted by the NBI.

The video circulated while the manhunt for the doomsday evangelist and his associates was still ongoing, hence the use of the misleading footage.

VERA Files Fact Check has also debunked other disinformation related to the search for Quiboloy.

The video with the wrong context was uploaded by the FB page Bmax tv (created on March 19, 2024). It garnered 2,800 reactions, 783 comments, 215 shares, and 584,000 views, and is still being shared by netizens.
