Following the issuance of an arrest warrant for Vice President Sara Duterte on charges of grave threats, a video claiming to show a large crowd of her supporters gathering for a rally has circulated online. This is false.
On Sept. 6, a Facebook page uploaded a 17-second reel showing a throng of people in the street who were wearing green, red and white jerseys and supposedly chanting, “Duterte!”
The reel carried the following overlaid text:
“Nagrally na ang mga DDS
(The DDS have rallied).”
A reverse image search reveals that the video was recorded in Mexico. It was originally published on June 25 on the official FB page of Televisa Tijuana Oficial, a Mexico-based news outlet.
There was no chanting of “Duterte!” in the original video, contrary to the claim in the false reel.
The caption of Televisa Tijuana Oficial’s post, originally written in Spanish, stated: “Tijuana gets excited and lives this Mexican national team match with passion.”
On the same day, Mexico’s national team competed and won against Czech Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The video from Mexico was stitched together with an old clip of Duterte supporters gathering in Davao City to celebrate the 80th birthday of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
The untrue post surfaced a day after the vice president appeared before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 98 on Sept. 5 to post bail for three counts of grave threats. The charges stemmed from her remarks directing someone to kill President Ferdinand Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former House speaker Martin Romualdez, if she were killed.
As of writing, the incorrect post has so far garnered 134,000 views; 3,800 reactions; 916 comments; and 428 shares.
