HOW much evidence does the prosecution have to present before the Senate impeachment court to convict Chief Justice Renato Corona? The answer to this most important question is still up in the air although legal minds, including some senator-judges, agree that proof beyond reasonable doubt is definitely not a requirement.

By LALA ORDENES THE statements of assets, liabilities and net worth filed by Chief Justice Renato Corona and the land records submitted to the impeachment court on Thursday show a number of discrepancies: A 631.6-sq. m. lot in Quezon City he bought in 1995 doesn't appear in his SALN; a property in Marikina declared in his 1992 SALN was no longer declared after that even when the titles remain in his name; and two condominium units were declared years after their purchase. AFTER one-and-a-half years in office, President Aquino finally decided to move for the ouster of Corona. I don’t believe that the Supreme Court decision on Hacienda Luisita was the trigger in Aquino’s decision move against Corona, who is a known ally of Gloria Arroyo.
