President Rodrigo Duterte cannot seem to make up his mind on what to do with Health Secretary Francisco Duque’s stay in the Cabinet amid calls for the latter’s resignation over deficiencies in the Department of Health’s (DOH) documentation of more than P67 billion of COVID-19 funds.
The national government is extending until Aug. 31 its distribution of cash aid worth P1,000 to P4,000 to 10.8 million individuals in the National Capital Region (NCR). But neither Duterte nor the DSWD has announced a separate financial assistance scheme for mothers.
After castigating the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) on several occasions for its critical stand on his war on drugs, the president has turned his ire on COA over its findings noting “deficiencies” in P67.32 billion of the Department of Health’s (DOH) spending of the COVID-19 response funds.
Before and after the dubious video was posted on Aug. 19, President Rodrigo Duterte had declared full support for Duque amid calls for his resignation. During his weekly briefing on Monday night (Aug. 23), the president reiterated he would not ask his health secretary to quit, but would accept his resignation if he did so voluntarily. There has been no word from Duque since.
Roque dubbed the quote card as “fake news” while a media outfit whose logo is visible in the graphic denied and denounced the post.
The untrue post surfaced shortly after the U.S. sent 3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines.
