The quote “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world” is very much evident in the Philippines where women play an active role in every sector of society.
Republic Act 6949 designates March 8 as National Women’s Day as a tribute to Filipina Women. The date follows the international practice of commemorating women’s fight for equality and liberation along with the women’s rights movement that started more than a century ago.
March has also been designated as International Women’s month not only to celebrate women’s contribution to society but also to underscore acts of inequality and harassment that women continue to be subjected to.
