A Facebook (FB) page pretending to be official accounts of Super8 claimed that the grocery retail chain is giving away a gift bag, a smartphone, and a shopping voucher to celebrate its anniversary this August. Super8 has no such offering.
“Please report any other Super8 Facebook pages you see online. They are promoting scam and fraudulent offers,” Super8 said in an August 10 statement.
Here’s how the scam works: when a netizen types “Congratulations” in the comments section, an automated comment will tell the user to click the blue sign-up button on the impostor page.
The sign-up button redirects to a bogus Google site asking people to register. This registration button opens up another website that attempts to phish the netizen’s personal information.
VERA Files Fact Check debunked the same modus on another anniversary scam that used the name of Waltermart, another grocery store chain.
The impostor pages’ posts, published on Aug. 9 and 10, appeared as Super8 celebrates its 18th anniversary this month.
The fake posts carried the following text:
“🎊 Kumusta sa lahat👋 Para ipagdiwang ang kaarawan ni @Super8 Grocery. Lahat ng magsusulat ng “Congratulations” sa aming PAGE bago ang Agosto 15, 2024 ay makakatanggap ng mga eksklusibong premyo sa anyo ng mga espesyal na gift bag, telepono Samsung Galaxy A53, cash at shopping voucher. Good luck!”

Unofficial FB page Super8 Grocery Warehouse (created last Aug. 10) was behind the bogus post which garnered over 261 interactions, 1,651 comments, and 825 shares.
