A Facebook post claims that fictional criminal defense lawyer Annalise Keating expressed an interest in joining Vice President Sara Duterte’s defense team. This is fake.
An FB user posted the fake quote card on March 29, which read:
“CRIMINAL LAWYER ANNALISE KEATING
I WANT TO BE PART OF VP SARAH DUTERTE’S DEFENDS TEAM.”
Keating is a fictional character played by actress Viola Davis in the American drama series “How to Get Away with Murder.” The series concluded in 2020, which makes this statement impossible for her to have said.
The quote also incorrectly used the word “defends” instead of “defense.”

The fake quote card was posted on the pro-Duterte FB group “Duterte Family Supporters” and drew divided reactions from netizens. Hundreds of people wrote in the comment section to thank Keating, while many who shared the post criticized Duterte supporters for believing the fake post.
The fake quote card surfaced amid the House hearings on the impeachment cases lodged against Duterte, for alleged misuse of confidential funds, threatening the president and betrayal of public trust. On March 28, a group of lawyers filed a petition at the Supreme Court to declare the proceedings as “unconstitutional.”
Meanwhile, VERA Files Fact Check previously debunked a similar claim that Keating, Elle Woods, and other fictional characters were defending former president Rodrigo Duterte against the International Criminal Court.
The false quote card, published by an FB, has garnered over 9,200 reactions; 1,300 comments; and 1,300 shares.
