A quote card claiming that Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has threatened Muslims and Visayans and called himself the “modern Duterte” has been shared by Facebook users. This is fake.
Posted on Sept. 16, FB users quoted Remulla in the fake graphic saying:
“‘Yan mga Muslim at Bisaya na yan Hindi ako takot diyan ako ang makabagong Duterte sa panahong ito matakot sila (Those Muslims and Visayas, I am not afraid of that, I am the modern Duterte, at this time they should be afraid).”
One FB post also carried the caption:
“Nalimtan nya nga isa cya sa mga ngplano nga ipa dakup c FPRRD dalhun sa Netherlands. Idol mn diay niya ky The Modern Duterte dw cya (He forgot that he was one of those who planned to arrest FPRRD and take him to the Netherlands).”
There are no quotes or news reports containing actual statements from Remulla intimidating Muslims and Visayans. Neither has Remulla issued any similar statement through his social media accounts.
He was reported instead as encouraging a peaceful parliamentary election in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, which was held last Sept. 14.
The election marked the existence of a “Muslim nation” unifying with a predominantly Christian country, Remulla said during the final command conference for the elections on Aug. 26.
Remulla has become a target of false claims following his role in the grave threats case against Vice President Sara Duterte and the arrest of former House speaker Martin Romualdez for plunder.
The fabricated post surfaced following former president Rodrigo Duterte’s first in-person appearance before the International Criminal Court on Sept. 16.
The fake posts shared in two FB groups have so far accumulated 903 reactions, 379 comments, and 39 shares.
