At least three Facebook posts claim that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. responded to Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte’s claim that he only won the 2022 presidential election because of his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte. This is fake.
VERA Files traced the earliest publicly available copy of the claim to a June 1 post by an FB user. It was last reposted on Aug. 3. The graphic contains a photo of Marcos and this fake quote attributed to him:
“Hindi niyo pagmamay-ari ang Pilipinas para sabihing nanalo ako dahil sa kapatid mo. Kayu-kayo ang sumama sakin dahil alam niyo na matunog ang apelyido ng aking ama.. [Ex. President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos Sr]
Binoto ako ng tao dahil gusto ako ng tao. Binoto ako ng tao dahil Marcos ang apelyido ko, hindi Duterte.

The post is captioned:
“PBBM SLAMS BACK TO PULONG DUTERTE: “HINDI NIYO PAGMAMAY-ARI ANG PILIPINAS PARA SABIHING NANALO AKO DAHIL KAY INDAY”

A similar post was published on July 27 after Marcos delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address and reposted a week later.
Paolo Duterte made a public statement on June 1 that Marcos only won the 2022 presidential elections because of his sister’s nationwide support base.
“Because the truth is simple — without Sara Duterte, you would not have won by the margin that you did.”
But there is no record of Marcos delivering speeches or remarks claiming he won solely on his own merit, disowning his political alliance with the Dutertes, or attributing his victory to his father’s surname in this manner.
The fake posts surfaced after Duterte made that remark, where he also publicly challenged the president to explain what reforms and accomplishments his administration has delivered ahead of his SONA.
Posted by several Facebook users, the posts have so far collectively garnered 8,479 reactions, 2,717 comments, and 976 shares.
