The same day the House of Representatives voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte, a Facebook post made the rounds online claiming that Malabon Rep. Antolin “Lenlen” Oreta III said the vice president needs to be replaced because she is “crazy.” This is not true.
A reader asked VERA Files Fact Check to verify the quote card, published on May 11, which showed a picture of Oreta juxtaposed with this statement:
“I agree with VP Sara’s impeachment–baliw na ang ating VP, kailangan ng mapalitan (our VP has gone crazy, she needs to be replaced).”
No such statement has been reported by the media attributed to the lawmaker.
In an email response to VERA Files, the office of Rep. Oreta said:
“[W]e would like to categorically clarify that while Congressman Antolin ‘Lenlen’ Oreta III did vote YES in favor of the impeachment proceedings, the statements being attributed to him in the circulating post are completely fabricated and were never made by the Congressman.”
They also encouraged the public to refer only to official statements released through Oreta’s verified accounts and via his office.
Oreta was among the 257 lawmakers who voted in favor of Duterte’s impeachment on May 11. The Senate formally convened a week later as an impeachment court to conduct trial.
The false quote card was published by the FB page Camanava Ka Ba? (created on March 10, 2025), which appears to regularly post content critical of the Malabon lawmaker. As of publishing, its quote card has received about 5,300 reactions, 1,400 comments and 86 shares.
