Netizens are circulating a video showing a scene supposedly inside a classroom in Pangasinan as Typhoon Emong made its landfall in the province this month. This video was taken in Bohol in 2021.
On July 25, Facebook pages and users uploaded a 45-second clip showing strong winds ripping up a classroom’s ceiling as evacuees scramble for safety. One of the posts carried the caption:
“SUPER TYPHOON EMONG nanalasa na sa Pangasinan (Super Typhoon Emong devastated Pangasinan).”
The video also carried the text:
“Super typhoon Emong made landfall as of Pangasinan imagine hitting linggayen (sic). July 25, 2025.”
The video was given erroneous context and was not taken during Typhoon Emong’s onslaught this July.

TikTok user @Laizaaaama uploaded the original video on Dec. 24, 2021, with a caption indicating that it happened in Bohol during Super Typhoon Odette.

Typhoon Emong did not reach the super typhoon category as the post claimed. At its peak, it maintained maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 165 km/h. Super typhoons are those with maximum wind speed exceeding 185 km/h.
One of the posts carried a link that leads netizens to an e-commerce site.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council’s July 29 Situational Report for the combined effects of the Southwest Monsoon and Typhoons Crising, Dante and Emong, at least 1.86 million families or 6.67 million individuals have been affected, with 194,142 displaced. The death toll has risen to 34, with seven individuals missing and 18 injured.
The video with erroneous context circulated a day after Typhoon Emong made its landfall in the vicinity of Agno, Pangasinan.
VERA Files has debunked typhoon-related disinformation as multiple storms battered the country this month.
