EXACTLY a month since the opening of classes, Filipino children continue to face higher risks every time they leave home for school.

The reason: absence of a child restraint law in the country.

A Department of Health report says at least 12 children per day have been killed or injured in road crashes from 2010 to 2015.

In February 2015, Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB ) has issued a new set of standards for school transport services to ensure school children’s safety. (Read Memo Circular on school transport service)

Instead of complying, school transport service operators staged a protest on the first day of school opening against LTFRB’s order. Find out why in this story by ABS-CBN reporter and RSJ fellow Jacque Manabat.

LTFRB’s guidelines, however, do not cover tricycles, which are commonly hired as school transport service by parents with lower income.
