Five Facebook (FB) posts by netizens falsely claimed that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is giving away P10,000.
The fake posts used the DSWD’s logo and a thumbnail of a scam graphic that featured Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano giving away money.
“Walang kaugnayan at walang kinalaman ang DSWD sa mga kumakalat na Facebook post na may caption at may kalakip na litrato gumagamit ng logo ng kagawaran nang walang pahintulot,” the DSWD said in a May 24 advisory..
(The DSWD has no connection or involvement in Facebook posts with a caption and photo that use the department’s logo without permission)
DSWD only posts its announcements on its official social media accounts and website, the advisory added.
Posted on May 25, 29, and 31, these fake posts bore a caption:
“OPEN sa LAHAT 18-60 yrs old. First 100 na mag-HOW bibigyan TRY LANG WALA NAMANG MAWAWALA SAYO. ?? #LegitSince2006 E pm MO Ako Asap ? PM ME PO”
(Open to all 18 to 60-year-olds. [The] first 100 who [comment] HOW will win. Just try, you won’t lose anything. #LegitSince2006. Send me a PM [private message] ASAP, please PM me.)
Any FB user who types the word “HOW” in the comments section will get a reply from the author or netizen promoting the bogus giveaway.
The five FB groups that shared the fake posts also carried other scams promising to give away money, jobs to Canada, and grocery packages.
The bogus posts, which appeared even after the DSWD already denied similar giveaways, garnered a total of over 3,184 interactions.
