VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Robredo did NOT say her election win is assured

Fake

A fake quote card bearing Rappler’s logo claimed that Vice President Leni Robredo said that her and running mate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan’s victory in the 2022 polls is guaranteed.

The bogus quote card posted by Facebook (FB) pages Sikat Ngayon and Notify Talk on April 19 showed Robredo saying, “Sigurado na ang panalo namin ni Kiko. Pag natalo kami ibig sabihin nadaya tayo, pag nadaya tayo magkakagulo.”

(Translation: Victory for Kiko and I is already assured. If we lose, it means we were cheated. There will be chaos if cheating happens.)

The quote card is fabricated. Robredo did not make these remarks in any speech or published material.

Rappler released a statement on April 25 to clarify that the quote card was fake and not theirs.

Walang kinalaman ang Rappler sa graphic na ito at hindi sinabi ang umano’y quote na nakalagay rito (Rappler has nothing to do with this graphic, and the supposed claim never said),” the organization said.

Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez also denied that the vice president ever made such a remark.

“This is fake. She never said anything even remotely similar to this ‘quote,’” Gutierrez told VERA Files Fact Check.

The fabricated post circulated two days after the April 17 joint press conference of some of Robredo’s rival candidates, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, and former Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales. During the briefing, Moreno urged Robredo to withdraw from the presidential race.

Despite having only five followers, Notify Talk’s post garnered 214 reactions and 153 shares. Meanwhile, SikatNgayon was created on October 3, 2019 and has 206, 504 followers.
