(Pang-anim sa pitong bahagi) Sa halalan sa Mayo 9, pipili ang mga botanteng Pilipino ng 12 sa 64 na kandidato na uupo sa Senado sa loob ng anim na taon. Ang pangunahing trabaho ng isang senador ay gumawa ng mga batas upang matugunan ang mga kakulangan sa patakaran, pahusayin ang mga umiiral na batas sa pamamagitan ng mga pag-amyenda, pagsusuri ng mabuti sa iminungkahing taunang budget ng pambansang pamahalaan, gamitin ang mga tungkulin sa pangangasiwa, bukod sa iba pang mga tungkulin.
Sa pitong bahaging seryeng ito, ang VERA Files Fact Check ay naghanap ng mahalagang impormasyon tungkol sa mga piling kandidato sa pagkasenador upang matulungan ang mga botante sa pagpili ng iboboto.
Mula sa opisyal na listahan ng Commission on Elections ng 64 na kandidato sa pagkasenador, 31 ang aming pinili batay sa mga sumusunod na pamantayan:
- Mga reelectionist;
- Mga dating opisyal ng gobyerno;
- Mga miyembro ng, o mga suportado ng mga pangunahing partidong pampulitika o nangungunang mga tiket ng pangulo at bise presidente; at
- Ang mga kandidatong kahit isang beses lamang na pumasok sa top 20 na mga survey bago ang halalan na isinagawa ng mga independiyenteng pollster na Pulse Asia at Social Weather Stations.
Pinagsama-sama ang 31 kandidato batay sa kanilang karanasan sa Senado — ang mayroon at ang wala — pagkatapos ay inayos ayon sa alpabeto.
Ang bawat profile ay naglalaman ng legislative agenda ng kandidato, karanasan sa gobyerno o larangan ng kadalubhasaan, mga isyu at kontrobersyang kinakaharap, mga kamag-anak sa gobyerno at iba pang mga interesanteng impormasyon. Kasama rin ang mga nauugnay na fact check, o nauugnay sa kandidato, na ginawa ng VERA Files Fact Check at ang mga media at academic partner nito sa pakikipagtulungan ng Tsek.ph.
Kasama sa part 6 ng serye sina dating senador JV Ejercito, Chiz Escudero at Alan Peter Cayetano, at incumbent Sen. Leila De Lima, na nakakulong mula pa noong Marso 2017 dahil sa mga kasong may kinalaman umano sa droga. Si Cayetano, kung mahalal, ay makakasama ang kanyang kapatid na si Pia Cayetano sa Senado.
