VERA FILES FACT SHEET: Why is Comelec challenging the ban on ‘premature campaigning’ for Barangay and SK elections?

After three postponements, the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will finally push through in October 2023. In preparation for the balloting, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Feb. 10 that it will prohibit “premature campaigning” despite a 2009 Supreme Court ruling against it.
