A YouTube video claims the Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed a case against former president Rodrigo Duterte. This needs context.

The decision only refers to a 2024 SC decision dismissing protective writs against Duterte. The former chief executive still has a pending disbarment case filed this January.

Uploaded on Jan. 18, the video’s headline read:

Malaking GoodNews! TikL0p ang Lahat sa Hat0L ng K0RTE? VpSara FPrrd PanaL0 na! Tamba Sinibak na Co

(This is huge good news! Everyone yielded to the court’s verdict? VP Sara FPRRD have won! Tamba fired Co)!”

Its thumbnail also bore the text: “CASE DISMISSED NA! TIKLOP LAHAT SA KORTE? TAMBA-CO SEBAK (Case dismissed already! Everyone gave in to the court? Tamba-Co fired).”

At the 0:38 mark, an anonymous narrator also said:

Binasura na at gawing final ng Korte Suprema ang desisyon nito na hindi na buksang muli ang mga kasong pinipetisyon laban sa dating pangulo na si Rodrigo Duterte

(The court dismissed and made final its decision not to reopen the cases petitioned against former president Rodrigo Duterte).”

The Supreme Court dismissed last year a writ of amparo and habeas data case filed by rights groups against former president Rodrigo Duterte. He has a pending disbarment case filed in January.

This was the case filed by Karapatan, Rural Missionaries of the Philippines (RMP), and Gabriela appealing their petition for writs of amparo and habeas data to protect their members against Duterte dismissed by the SC last April 2024. The high court further noted in October that the ruling can no longer be appealed because it was already recorded in the SC’s books.

Meanwhile, Duterte is currently facing a disbarment case filed last Jan. 16 by rights groups and kin of the victims of extrajudicial killings.

The House of Representatives quad committee also recommended the filing of a crime against humanity charges against the former president last Dec. 18 for his bloody war on drugs, but a formal complaint has yet to be made.

The video emerged two days after the disbarment case was filed.

Uploaded by YouTube channel PINAS NEWS INSIDER, the video received 492,167 interactions.
