A Facebook (FB) user posted a photo of a sculpture of former president Rodrigo Duterte supposedly made by the Dutch in The Netherlands. This is fake.

Posted on May 13, the image of a large bust, which appears to be made of clay soil, depicting Duterte surrounded by men purportedly working on the sculpture. The post bore a caption:

“ART made by Netherland People #AI”

The image was made with artificial intelligence (AI).

The image of a sculpture of former president Rodrigo Duterte supposedly made by the Dutch in The Netherlands is fake and AI-generated.

VERA Files Fact Check ran the photo through the AI-detector tool Hive Moderation. The results show that the photo has a 98.2% likelihood of being AI-generated.

Some indicators of AI can be found in the image, such as the blurred faces of the artists and the inconsistent roofing on the houses in the background. Moreover, the post was labeled by the page to have AI content. The caption also has the hashtag #AI.

Duterte remains detained in Scheveningen, the ICC’s detention facility in The Hague, Netherlands, as he awaits the confirmation of charges hearing scheduled on Sept. 23. He was arrested on March 11 for crimes against humanity under an ICC warrant coursed through the International Criminal Police Organization.

The photo circulated amid Duterte’s lead in the May 12 Davao City mayoral race despite his detention. He garnered 662,630 votes as of May 14. He was up against four other candidates, including Karlo Nograles, who was his Cabinet secretary from 2018 to 2022 and appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as chairperson of the Civil Service Commission on June 30, 2022.

The photo was uploaded by the page Bagong Pilipinas 2022 and has over 36,000 reactions, 3,200 comments and 3,300 shares as of writing.
