FACT CHECK: FAKE graphic card on Duterte return used to promote online product

Fake:

ABS-CBN did not publish a graphic card indicating that the ICC released Duterte. The post contains a clickbait link to promote a product on an e-commerce site.

A graphic card circulating online claims that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has allowed former president Rodrigo Duterte to return to the Philippines after being detained for three months in The Hague, Netherlands. This is fake.

Published on June 5 but which continues to mislead netizens, the photo shared by a Facebook page used the logos of TV Patrol and ABS-CBN News with a text that read:

“ICC pinayagan ng umuwi ng Pilipinas si dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte (ICC allowed former president Rodrigo Duterte to go home).”

Its caption states:

BREAKING NEWS: Dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte pinayagan ng umuwi sa Pilipinas ng ICC matapos makulong ng ilang buwan…Read more…

(BREAKING NEWS: Former president Rodrigo Duterte has been allowed to go home to the Philippines after being detained for a few months).

The International Criminal Court has not authorized former president Rodrigo Duterte to return to the Philippines. The post used clickbait tactics to promote a product on a shopping website.

ABS-CBN News has not published any graphics card indicating that the ICC has released the former president.

The fake post also contains a clickbait link to a supposed news article but redirects to a product on an e-commerce site.

On June 4, a day before the fake post surfaced, the ICC prosecutors submitted the seventh batch of evidence against Duterte. The prosecution disclosed to the defense 129 additional items, aside from the 267 items already submitted since the disclosure of evidence period began on April 30.

Duterte remains detained at the Scheveningen detention center in The Hague, Netherlands after he was arrested on March 11 on a warrant issued by the ICC for alleged crimes against humanity committed in the course of his administration’s bloody drug war.

He is set to attend the confirmation of charges hearing on Sept. 23, but the former president’s legal team has petitioned the court to allow his “interim release” to another country.

The clickbait post, posted by the Facebook page Partido Local (created on June 1, 2025), has been shared in several FB groups and has so far garnered 209 reactions and 339 shares.
